TIPS
ON HANGING AND AFTER CARE
Hanging
All our art and picture framing work comes complete with
nylon cord, self adhesive bumpons and D-rings ready to hang. Tie
cord slackly using a reef knot and use two picture hooks positioned
about 50 millimetres in from the sides of the picture. This gives
greater stability and safety. The bumpons, which you will find in
the bag with the cord, go on the bottom corners of the frame. They
keep the bottom of the picture frame away from the wall lessening
the chances of dust and mildew building up and keeping the frame
more stable.
Larger, heavier works such as mirrors need different treatment.
We recommend steel mini-mounts for maximum security.
When hanging your art work, try to avoid:
- Outside walls or placing art work near windows;
- Direct sunlight or strong fluorescent lighting;
- Bathrooms, kitchens or other areas where the artwork may be
exposed to excessive moisture;
- Positions near heaters or fireplaces.
Pictures come in so many different sizes and weights and the walls
they go on also vary, so it’s not possible to give exact information
for all situations. Please ask for further help!
Aftercare
When your picture leaves Art Works Framers it will be in top condition.
To help you keep it that way, we recommend a regular check on the
condition of your pictures and frames. Once a year remove your framed
art work from the wall and check:
- That there’s no build-up of cobwebs and dust behind your
picture – this is an ideal environment for harmful insects
and mould to thrive;
- That the picture hook and the hangers attached to the back
of the frame are still in good condition, and the cord isn’t
frayed or loosened;
- That the backing tape has not loosened allowing access for
dust and insects;
- That there is no sign of a film or mildew on the inside of
your glass.
If you have any problems, please bring your picture in for a thorough
check. The picture will be removed, inspected for damage, and cleaned
and refitted.
Remember, the best place to have your framed work is on a wall
where it can be appreciated. Don’t store pictures under beds
or in places where there is poor air circulation and the frame and
glass risk being damaged. |
